Footrot in Sheep

Footrot is a curse in our sheep industry and unfortunately, because no one wants to admit to a problem, it has grown in prevalence on the Fleurieu.
Spring is generally regarded as the spreading time, therefore “bathing time”.
The dry summer months of January and (maybe) February is when you should work at your eradication plan.  This is when sheep are turned over, feet are inspected, paring done and the mob segregated into ‘cleans’, ‘possibles’ and ‘culls’;

  • Cleans go to a clean paddock (no stock for a few weeks),
  • Possibles to another paddock for treatment,
  • and Culls are disposed of.

There is some good information available and FPAG animal health personal can meet with you to help with a plan, treatment rates etc.
